The Mizzou men's basketball team dropped a tight contest at Ole Miss on Saturday, falling to the Rebels, 76-69. The Tigers are now 12-4 on the year and 2-1 versus SEC foes, while the Rebels improve to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Senior Mark Mitchell led the Tigers on the day – registering a team-best 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. He made seven of his nine attempts from the field, while his seven assists are a new career high.
Overall, four Tigers scored in double figures with Jayden Stone scoring 16, Shawn Phillips Jr. adding 12 and Trent Pierce notching 10.
GAME RECAP
The Tigers came out strong – making eight of their first 11 field goals in building a double-digit lead. Stone led Mizzou through the early stretch with 10 points as the visitors gained the 22-12 advantage.
Ole Miss, however, would respond. The Tigers would make just one of their next 10 field goals, while committing seven turnovers, as the hosts used a 15-3 run to pull in front for the first time, 27-25.
The contest was then even for the next 20 minutes. The Rebels maintained their one-point into the break, 37-36, and outside of one possession early in the second, neither team would lead by more than three points until the seven-minute mark of the period.
It was the Rebels who finally gained some cushion with a five-point lead, 62-57, and after the Tigers pulled back even at 62, Ole Miss used a 7-0 stretch for a 69-62 lead. Mizzou was only as close as three the remainder of the game and a second-chance bucket in the final minute sealed the victory for Ole Miss.
