COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer picked up its first win of the season over Youngstown State, 5-0, on Wednesday night at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium.
Senior Hailey Chambliss recorded her first goal in the Black & Gold in the 79th minute and followed it up with a second just 48 seconds later, marking the first multi-goal game by a Tiger since Leah Selm tallied two against Oklahoma on October 18, 2024.
"When you put five in the back of the net and you have a shutout on the other side of it, you're going to be happy," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "There were moments of some really good stuff, but there is still a lot that we need to continue to grow and get better at."
Mizzou earned its first goal of the evening in the 20th minute, when sophomore Landis Canada found the back of the net for the first time this season after firing a shot into the top left of the net.
Just five minutes later, sophomore Emily Derucki crossed the ball to Brianna Buels, who scored Missouri's second goal by a header on the doorstep. The goal is Buels' first of the season and fifth of her career.
Missouri's offense began firing on all cylinders in the closing portion of the contest. In the 79th minute, Chambliss sent a shot on goal line extended that bounced down from the crossbar and dropped into the bottom left corner, marking her first goal for Mizzou.
Less than a minute later, freshman Ava Lamothe recorded her first assist of her collegiate career after relaying a pass to Chambliss, who directed a shot that landed in the top left of the net to put the Tigers up 4-0 on the Penguins.
Two minutes after the pair of Chambliss goals, sophomore Mia Devrouax punched the ball into the top left corner, cashing in her first goal of her career, which was assisted by sophomore McKenna Moran.
Missouri added 11 shots in the second period to close the game in a total of 20, the most recorded in a game since posting 26 against SEMO on September 9, 2024. Mizzou's total of six goals over the first two games is its most since the opening of the 2023 season.
