University of Missouri women's golf finished third of 11 teams on Wednesday in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, finishing ahead of two top-50 SEC teams in the team's final regular-season tournament of the season.
Junior Melanie Walker posted her best finish for the team this year, placing in sixth place individually with a 219 (69-76-74). Her tournament was highlighted by a first-place finish in round one, posting three birdies on her way to a three-under 69 to tie for her lowest round of the season.
Overall, four Tigers finished inside the top-25 in the 57-golfer field, including Ffion Tynan and Jade Zamora in 11th at +7 with a 54-hole total of 223. This marks Tynan's eighth straight top-15 finish and Zamora's second-best finish of the season. Alexandra Berglund finished just behind them in 25th at +12 with a total of 228.
Mizzou jumped out to an early lead in the tournament behind Walker's 69 before finishing the first round in second behind only Georgia as a team. From there, the Tigers stayed consistent, holding third place at +28, placing over No. 34 Oklahoma and No. 48 Alabama. Mizzou now owns four top-50 victories in its last two tournaments.
No. 35 Georgia Southern claimed the title in Athens behind a second round surge that saw them take the lead for good.
The Tigers' postseason begins at the SEC Championship in Belleair, Florida on Monday, April 14.
