Canete Earns Ranked Singles Win in Tennis' Loss to No. 9 Tennessee

Columbia, MO. - No. 71-ranked University of Missouri tennis ended its day against No. 9-ranked Tennessee, dropping the match 4-1. Mizzou is now 12-13 and 2-11 in Southeastern Conference matches, while Tennessee is 16-5 and 10-4 in SEC play.
Missouri fell short in doubles play, losing at No. 2 and 3. At No. 1, senior Mary Brumfield and freshman Korina Roso put up a fight against their Volunteer opponent, ending the match unfinished 4-5.
Senior Inah Canete earned a point for the Tigers in singles as she beat the No. 36-ranked singles player in the country at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2. The rest of the team fought hard and determined, as both freshman Zoe Lazar and junior Andrea Artimedi went unfinished, with Lazar having claimed the first set and Artimedi leading in her first set.

"It was such a close match today against a top-10 team. We performed well, especially in singles. When Tennessee clinched the match, we were up on two courts, Zoe at #5 and Andrea at #6. Korina fought hard and came up short in the third set—a fantastic performance by Inah today, who beat the 36th-ranked player in the country. We are progressing, and the team is determined to finish the season strong. I look forward to Senior Day on Sunday as we take on Kentucky and Lindenwood.
