
Men’s Golf Climbs Standings Day Two at The Hootie

University of Missouri men's golf improved its standing by three spots during the second round of the The Hootie at Bulls Bay Monday, sitting in fifth of 15 schools through 36 holes.
The Tigers carded a five-under 283 for the second-straight round to move from eighth to fifth in the standings at -10. It marks the first time Mizzou has carded back-back rounds under par as a team since the first and second round of the Canadian Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 16.
No. 39 Purdue is in first place through 36 holes at -22, followed by Furman (-16), Charleston (-16) and No. 18 South Carolina (-12).
Leading the Tigers is sophomore Veikka Viskari, who carded a three-under 69 to move up nine spots on the leaderboard. The sophomore is now 13th overall with a score of -4 (71-69), recording four birdies against just one bogey on Monday.
Four Tigers, overall, sit in the top 30 of the 84-golfer field. Graduate student Mattias Varjun carded his third-straight round under par (he had one round under par in his first 17 rounds of the season), posting a two-under 70 to improve his ranking to 16th overall at -3 (71-70). Varjun finished the day with five birdies to his name to move up the leaderboard six spots.
Freshman Trent Mierl and junior Virgilio Paz also rank in the top 30 after two days of action. Paz followed up his even-par 72 on Sunday with a one-under 71 – matching Varjun with a team-best five birdies on the day to place 28th overall at -1. Mierl carded a one-over and is in 23rd through two rounds at -1 (69-73).
The Tigers looks to continue their climb up the leaderboard on Tuesday, teeing off at 7 a.m. CT for the final round of action.
