Three members of the University of Missouri men's golf team sit in the top 25 after the opening 18 holes at The Hootie at Bulls Bay.
In an 84-golfer field, freshman Trent Mierl, sophomore Veikka Viskari and graduate student Mattias Varjun all carded under-par scores to place among the top 25 golfers.
Mierl continued his strong stretch in South Carolina with a three-under 69 to pace the Tigers. The rookie carded a clean scorecard with three birdies and no bogeys to finish 11th of 84 golfers through 18 holes.
Following Mierl was Viskari and Varjun, who both sit in 22nd place after day one with a one-under 71. Both golfers collected three birdies and two bogeys on the day as Mizzou had three golfers finish under par in the same round for the first time since the Canadian Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 16.
As a team, the Tigers are in eighth place of 15 teams with a team score of -5, just one stroke behind hosts No. 18 South Carolina and Charleston in sixth place and one stroke ahead of No. 48 New Mexico.
Day two tees off on Monday morning with the Tigers starting at 8 a.m. CT.
