MU men claimed each spot of the top five, Broemmel wins in her first race as a Tiger
COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri Cross Country opened its season with a pair of wins at the Mizzou XC Opener on Friday morning at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, home of the 2025 NCAA XC Championships.
Sophomore Rahel Broemmel dominated the women's race for the Tigers, placing first with a final time of 17:34.8, a 12.5-second lead over her second-place teammate, Nicole Louw. This was her debut race for Missouri after transferring from Arkansas State, where she placed fifth at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships.
"Today, we saw a lot of what I've seen from Rahel in practice, which is running with experience and working together," said cross country head coach Kyle Levermore. "I'm excited to have her a part of our program. We've got a long road ahead of us, but today was a lot of fun."
The Mizzou men took eight of the top 10 individual results, with Tyler Freiner earning his first collegiate win. The junior, who finished fifth in the 2023 race, claimed the top spot with a time of 18:23.7. This marked his first cross country race since returning from injury last season.
The Tiger men recorded 17 points on the day competing against the Saint Louis Billikens, while the Missouri women beat out the 12th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks and SLU, finishing with 28 points.
