COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer toppled Missouri State, 2-0, in the 2024 season opener Thursday night at Walton Stadium.
The Tigers pressed offensively early in the contest putting heavy pressure on the Lady Bears backline.
In the ninth minute Missouri broke through as junior forward Kylee Simmons fired a shot that was deflected back into the center of the box by Missouri State's goalkeeper. From there, the Tigers' held steady defensively, holding Missouri State to limited offensive chances and controlling the possession until the final whistle.
Mizzou recorded 15 shots in the contest, including six on target, in the team's fourth win against its in-state opponent in series history.
Simmons led the team in attempts with four, including one on goal. She was followed by Leah Selm with three shots and a pair on the net.
