University of Missouri cheerleading won its second-straight National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) National Championship on Friday night in Dayton, Florida. In addition, the Tigers went one step further in 2024 as Truman won the competition for best mascot.
The Tigers scored a 95.2245 in the finals of the Intermediate Large Coed Division IA Championship, topping East Carolina (93.4143), Georgia Southern (92.9653) and Kansas State (92.6991) for the crown.
It marks the second-straight team title for Cynthia Metz's team as the Tigers won the 2023 championship with a score of 96.4028.
"Going back-to-back as National Champions is reflective of our program's culture," Metz said. "These athletes have a growth mindset that allows them to push through and overcome any challenges they may face. I could not be more proud of each athlete for all they give to Mizzou Cheer!"
Truman then followed with a title of his own on Saturday, winning with a score of 92.5 to top South Carolina's Cocky (90.5) and North Texas' Scrappy (89.3333).
"Our very own Truman the Tiger has captured the National Championship Title!" Metz said. "We already knew Truman was Mizzou's favorite, but now everyone knows that Truman the Tiger is the best mascot in the nation!"
NCA is the world's original cheer company and was founded in 1948, celebrating its 76th year in 2024. Over 300 teams are competing at this year's event in Florida.
