Trio of Softball Players Earn NFCA All-Region Accolades

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three members of the No. 7 seed University of Missouri softball team (43-16) earned 2024 NFCA Division I Southeast All-Region honors, the organization announced Saturday. Freshman Abby Hay was listed on the Southeast Second Team All-Region, while seniors Laurin Krings and Alex Honnold were tabbed to the Southeast Third Team All-Region.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three members of the No. 7 seed University of Missouri softball team (43-16) earned 2024 NFCA Division I Southeast All-Region honors, the organization announced Saturday.

Freshman Abby Hay was listed on the Southeast Second Team All-Region, while seniors Laurin Krings and Alex Honnold were tabbed to the Southeast Third Team All-Region.

The three selections are the most for Mizzou since the Tigers earned four in 2022. Honnold earned her second-straight All-Region honor while it was the first career laurel for Krings and Hay, respectively.

Abby Hay, an All-SEC Second Team Selection, is hitting .311 with 23 hits, 15 RBI, 11 runs, three doubles and three homers during her collegiate debut season. The Tigers' first baseman has started in each of the last 25 contests (26 starts, 33 games in 2024). She is fielding .989 in 2024.

Hay has also tallied six two-hit games over her freshman season.

The Columbia, Missouri, native, paced the Tigers in SEC play, batting .318 with 14 hits, nine RBI, six runs and three home runs. Hay also slugged .591 (.423 on-base percentage). She was named the SEC Player of the Week on April 23.

Laurin Krings has notched 13 wins (13-8) this season as Mizzou's ace. The Loveland, Colorado, senior, has totaled 115 strikeouts over 146.0 innings with a 2.64 ERA.

Krings ranks in the top-10 in the conference for innings pitched (146.0, 10th) and appearances (32, ninth). She also is 11th in the SEC with eight complete-games and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.11 (11th in the SEC).

Krings registered a 1.000 fielding percentage in SEC play (22 assists, three putouts, zero errors) for 2024 SEC All-Defensive Team honors.

She tallied a complete-game shutout in the victory over Mississippi State on April 27, punching out five.

Alex Honnold paces Mizzou in the batter's box this season, batting .346 to go with a Missouri single-season record, conference best 21 doubles (sixth in the NCAA) in 2024. The Tigers' two-hole hitter and starting center fielder has started in all 59 games, tallying 35 RBI, 43 runs, five homers, and two triples with a .559 slugging percentage.

Her 65 hits this campaign rank sixth in the conference. Honnold has also totaled 14 stolen bases (10th in the SEC) Defensively, she has posted a .978 fielding percentage in the outfield.

She ranks second on MU with 17 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games. She has also gone on a 14-game reached base streak (12-game hitting streak) in 2024.

Honnold registered a career-best matching four hits (4-for-4) with two runs, two doubles and an RBI in a 5-1 victory over UCF on Feb. 23. She also posted two doubles (2-for-4) with two runs and four RBI in a 10-9 win over #2 LSU on March 22.

Honnold, a West Des Moines, Iowa, native, was second on Mizzou during conference play for All-SEC Second Team honors, hitting .288 with 21 hits, 13 runs, 11 RBI, five doubles and two homers. She also compiled a .438 slugging percentage (.376 on-base percentage) with six stolen bases.

  • The Tigers square off in the first elimination game of the 2024 NCAA Columbia Regional against Indiana Saturday at 4:30 p.m., CT. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+. With a win, Mizzou would then take on the loser of No. 13/15 Washington/Omaha at 7 p.m., CT.
