COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri softball senior second baseman Maddie Gallagher served as a volunteer at the 2023 SEC Football Championship on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023.
Gallagher, a Port Washington, New York, native, was one of six SEC student-athletes that assisted in various roles at the SEC Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia Dec. 2 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
"Being able to work the 2023 SEC Football Championship under operations was an experience of a lifetime," Gallagher said of the opportunity. "Being able to sit in on staff meetings and seeing the amount of collaboration needed from so many people to put on an event this size was eye opening. It gave me a new perspective on all that goes on behind the scenes of the games that I'm lucky enough to play in. I learned so much during my week in Atlanta and met so many amazing people. Truly thankful for the SEC and this opportunity."
Gallagher appeared in 52 games with 46 starts over her first season at Mizzou in 2023.
She ranked third on the team with a .273 batting average (.331 slugging percentage/.376 on-base percentage) after she registered 33 hits, 14 runs, two doubles, one triple, one home run, and 14 RBI.
The infielder tallied a career-best matching 3-for-3 outing at the plate with two RBI and a run against Maine on March 3. She also brought in a trio of runs in the series opener at LSU on April 6.
In the classroom, Gallagher is studying at Parks, Recreation, & Sport: Sport Management at Missouri. She was named a 2023 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete.
