The fifth-year senior crushed four home runs in a sweep of No. 9/12 Kentucky.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri softball fifth-year senior Kimberly Wert was named SEC Player of the Week, the Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday.
The Tigers' all-time home run leader batted .857 (6-for-7) with four home runs and 13 RBI in the three-game sweep of No. 9/12 Kentucky. She crushed two grand slams on the weekend, leading the Tiger to a pair of run-rule victories.
In the first game of the series, Wert crushed a three-run home run off the foul pole to give the Tigers the lead. She stepped back up to the plate with the bases loaded in the second inning and crushed a grand slam to put the game out of reach early. Her seven RBI marked a career best and is tied for the third highest total by a Tiger in a single game.
She put her mark on the second game of the series with a game-tying home run. The Tigers trailed 3-1 in the top of the third inning, but Kimberly Wert put Mizzou back on top with a shot to left. She was walked in all three of her other plate appearances in the contest.
To close out the weekend, Wert crushed yet another grand slam, giving the Tigers a 7-1 lead in the third inning, putting the game out of reach for Kentucky.
The Tigers' sweep of Kentucky represented the highest-ranked opponent that Mizzou has swept in a three-game series.
Wert earns her second SEC Player of the Week nod of the season. She was also recognized after breaking the program home run record in a sweep of South Carolina.
