Former All-American, Pro Goalkeeper Joins Tigers' Staff
COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer head coach Stefanie Golan announced the addition of Kelsey Wys to the Mizzou Soccer coaching staff.
"We were very fortunate that we had some unbelievable candidates for this position, and Kelsey emerged as the best fit for the program right now." Coach Golan said, "Her background as a player for FSU and in the NWSL speaks for itself, she transitioned to a full-time assistant position where she gained valuable experience, and it is clear that coaching is what she is made to do. Kelsey knocked it out of the park with her attention to detail with the film analysis and her GK session, and we are confident she will help us elevate the training environment. She also fits into our belief that winning will be a byproduct of the culture we create, and she is committed to investing in developing that championship culture at Mizzou. Kelsey aligns with our values and vision, and her personality is a tremendous fit with the rest of the staff. We cannot wait to welcome her to CoMo and to the Tiger family!"
Wys joins the Tigers after serving as an assistant with Appalachian State for two seasons from 2020-21. She helped the Mountaineers to nine clean sheets during her two seasons with App State while functioning as the goalkeeper coach. Wys would also assist with game planning, specifically on the defensive side.
Prior to her time as an assistant, Wys was a standout goalkeeper at Florida State and in the professional ranks.
As a four-year starter from 2010-13, she led Florida State to two ACC titles and a national runner-up finish in 2013. Wys earned All-American honors in 2012 and she was named to the Mac Hermann Award watch list in 2013.
After graduating from Florida State, Wys was the first goalkeeper off the board in the 2014 NWSL College Draft, where she was selected by the Western New York Flash. She made nine starts in 10 appearances in her rookie season. She then joined the Washington Spirit for the next four years from 2015-18. During the 2016 season, she led the Spirit to the finals of the NWSL Tournament as the starting keeper.
