TSF's Celebration of Women's Sports Fund Launches On NGWSD

COLUMBIA, Mo. - On National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Mizzou Athletics is proud to join the Women's Sports Foundation in celebrating the achievements of girls and women in athletics. Every day, our female student-athletes harness the power of practice, preparation and competition to grow personally and professionally. They represent Mizzou and the entire state of Missouri on the national stage at the highest level of college athletics.
Our women's programs and female student-athletes are no strangers to success. In the past year alone, Mizzou Softball hosted an NCAA Super Regional last Spring before track & field alumna Karissa Schweizer proudly represented Mizzou and the United States in the Summer Olympics. Last fall, Missouri native and former women's basketball standout Sophie Cunningham led the Phoenix Mercury to the WNBA Finals. In December, the Mizzou women's basketball squad made history by defeating top-ranked South Carolina inside Mizzou Arena. Now, the Tigers' gymnastics team ranks among the top fifteen programs in the country following a 5-1 start to the 2022 season.

Today's celebration coincides with the 50th anniversary of Title IX legislation that paved the way for greater resources and female participation in college athletics. Much progress has been made in the past 50 years but there is more to be done.
