Tsai secured his fourth consecutive event under-par
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Missouri men's golf team closed out their opening spring event, the Gator Invitational on Sunday afternoon in 12th place against the competitive 15-team slate as host-team Florida took home the team title. Junior Yu-Ta Tsai placed tied for eighth to pace the Tigers in their 17-over 857 (281-284-292) finish on the challenging Mark Bostick Golf Course.
Tsai jumped out to an early start, going 3-under-par with a 67 in the first round. He immediately moved on into the next 18 holes to wrap up the day with a 1-over 71. Tsai capped off the tournament with a 1-under 69 to complete his 3-under 207 event score. This marks his fourth consecutive event under-par this season and continues his streak of placing top-20 or better in every event thus far.
"My ball striking has been good. There were some tough pin positions out there, but I thought I had good course management and have been playing aggressive, shooting for the middle of the green which allowed me to not have a lot of bogeys," said Tsai.
Junior Michael Terblanche had a season-best performance competing as an individual. He fired a season-low 1-under 69 in the first round, followed by an even-par 70 in the second round. Terblanche finished with a 2-over 72 en route to his best event score and place of the season with a 1-over 211 to tie for 19th place.
Senior Tommy Boone's weekend was highlighted by his second-round score of a 1-over 71. He sandwiched that with a 3-over 73 and 2-over 72, respectively, to finish second on the team with a 6-over 216 at T-41.
Jack Parker and Jack Lundin both carded a pair of 1-over 71s on the first day. Parker went on to post a 5-over 75 in the end to stand at T-44 with a 7-over 217, while Lundin closed out his final round with a 6-over 76 to share of piece of 49th place.
Rounding out the Tigers' lineup was junior Charlie Crockett whose best round was in the opening 18-holes with a 2-over 72. He finished with a 19-over 229 tied for 76th place.
HEAR FROM CO-HEAD COACH LEROUX:
"We were right where we needed to be or better if we played the last five holes well. I mean, we were even at the turn with our counting guys and through 12 holes. It's hard when you play 50 good holes and then have just four holes in the end. Now we're going to focus on Auburn next and go from there."
UP NEXT:
The Tigers have a 3-week hiatus before returning to action in Auburn, AL for the Auburn Tiger Invitational on March 6 – 8.
