Mizzou Returns Home, Hosts Ole Miss

Tigers will face Ole Miss for the second-time this season

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri men's basketball team returns home to Mizzou Arena, after back-to-back road games, to host Ole Miss, Saturday, Feb. 12. Saturday's game marks the seventh annual Rally for Rhyan game at Mizzou, raising awareness for pediatric cancer. More information can be found here.

The Tigers' game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip on SEC Network with Mike Morgan and Joe Kleine on the call. Mike Kelly and Chris Gervino will have the call on Tiger Radio Network.

MIZZOU HEADLINES

  • Mizzou split a pair of road games last week, including avenging an earlier loss this season to Texas A&M.
  • The Tigers' won, 70-66, in College Station Saturday, securing its seventh all-time road win against the Aggies.
  • Kobe Brown recorded his fifth game of the season with more than 20 points, in addition to six rebounds and six assists.
  • Against A&M, Mizzou had its second-best shooting performance of the season, going 26-of-46 from the floor.
  • Mizzou outrebounded the Aggies, 29-21, as MU is 9-2 this season when outrebound its opponent.
  • Javon Pickett returned from injury to score a team-high 15 points against Vanderbilt, where Mizzou had its fifth-straight game decided by 10 points or less.
  • Pickett has scored double-digits in seven-straight conference games, and is shooting a team best 50 percent from the floor against SEC opponents.
  • Kaleb Brown had a standout game at Vanderbilt, recording a career-high seven points, two three-pointers and six rebounds. The freshman also played a season-best 24 minutes.
  • Mizzou's strength of schedule remains one of the toughest in the nation, currently sitting at sixth according to the NET rankings.
  • Mizzou's field goal percentage and free throw percentage in SEC games is up there with the best in the conference. The Tigers' rank second in the league in free throw percentage (74.5) and third in field goal (45.1) in conference games.
  • Trevon Brazile recorded his 33rd block of the season against Vanderbilt, moving him into a tie with Jeremiah Tilmon for the fifth-most by any Mizzou freshman in a single-season.

THE SERIES

  • Saturday is the second meeting between Mizzou-Ole Miss this season, as the Tigers' previously took a 25-point road win against the Rebels in Oxford earlier this season.
  • Mizzou's win in Oxford was the third-largest SEC win of all-time for the Tigers, and was backed by a school record 10-for-10 performance by Amari Davis.
  • Ole Miss still leads the all-time series, 15-4, but three of Mizzou's all-time wins against the Rebels have come under head coach Cuonzo Martin.
  • Mizzou has not defeated Ole Miss in Columbia since 2013, after dropping a seven-point game in Columbia last season.

SCOUTING OLE MISS

  • Ole Miss enters Saturday's game with a 3-8 record in conference, holding conference wins against LSU, Florida and Mississippi State.
  • The Rebels lost to Mizzou at home on Jan. 18 in a 78-53 game, where they allowed Mizzou to shoot 70.9 percent from the floor in the second half.
  • Ole Miss welcomed back its leading scorer, Jarkel Joiner, last week in a pair of games against Florida and Alabama. After being held to seven points against Florida, Joiner dropped 33 on Alabama with a 12-of-20 shooting performance.
  • Ole Miss ranks sixth in the SEC in three-point field goals, averaging seven per game. Matthew Murrell has the most on the team with 44 in the 2021-22 season.
  • Nysier Brooks ranks third in the SEC in offensive rebounds per game, with just under three on average. He also is one of the top-10 shot blockers in the league.
  • The Rebels will be without leading guard, Daeshun Ruffin, for the remainder of the season after he had a season-ending knee injury against LSU. Ruffin had a team-best 12 points and four steals for Ole Miss in the first meeting between them and Mizzou this season.

UP NEXT

Mizzou remains at home for a midweek matchup against Arkansas, Tuesday, Feb. 15. The game is set for 8 p.m. on SEC Network and will be a rematch between the teams' who met earlier in January. Mizzou is 1-1 this season when facing a team for the second team.
