The Tigers were within two runs until a five-run sixth broke the game open
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (12-31, 5-18 SEC) dropped game two of the weekend series against No. 5 Tennessee (36-11, 16-7 SEC) 11-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Tennessee raced to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, using five hits to build the early advantage. Sophomore Torin Montgomery helped the Tigers answer in their half of the opening framing, sneaking a two-run double inside the bag at third to close the gap to 4-2.
Mizzou tied the game in the third with a two-run double off the bat of junior Tre Morris. After a rocky first, senior Konnor Ash settled in on the mound to retire six straight Volunteers via strikeout across the second, third and fourth frames.
Tennessee regained the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs on three quick hits to start the inning. The Vols tacked on five in the sixth to open an 11-4 lead.
