COLUMBIA, Mo. – On Thursday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2021 Division I All-Region Teams. Six from Mizzou Softball were named to the Southeast All-Region team, marking the highest total in program history to be named All-Region. The previous high was five, a mark reached in both 2008 and 2009.
Senior Brooke Wilmes and freshman Jenna Laird were each named to the first team. In 2019, Wilmes earned a spot on the Second Team in the Southeast Region. Wilmes leads Mizzou with 47 RBI while batting in the leadoff spot. Laird has been honored numerous times throughout the season for her spectacular play as a freshman. She was previously named SEC Freshman of the Year while also being named to the NFCA/Schutt Sports Freshman of the Year Top 15 List.
The Tigers placed three on the second team in senior Hatti Moore, senior Kimberly Wert, and redshirt-junior Abby George. Moore leads the Tigers with a career-high 17 home runs on the season while adding 45 RBI. Kimberly Wert has driven 16 home runs in her own right, while moving into seventh on the Mizzou all-time home run list. Abby George, on the other hand, has contributed to the Missouri offense by batting .458 on the season with a .472 on base percentage.
Redshirt-senior Cayla Kessinger was named to the third team. It is the second time that Kessinger has been named to the all-region team. She has smashed a career-high 12 home runs on the season while driving in 30 runs.
The Tigers will be in action on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT in the NCAA Columbia Regional. Mizzou is hosting a regional for the first time since 2016.
