
Grimes, Smith Nominees for McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Carter Grimes and Amanda Smith of the Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving programs have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of Missouri, the Southeastern Conference announced on Friday. The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the SEC since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
One male and one female from each of the SEC's 14 institutions were nominated for the scholarship, and the overall recipients of the award will be announced on May 18. The SEC provides the league's male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship. The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions.

- Also ranks fifth in the 200 backstroke and sixth in the 200 butterfly at Mizzou
- Took home seven event wins in his career
Amanda Smith, Women's Swimming & Diving
Major: Health Science
- Seven-time Dean's List honoree
- Three-time Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient
- First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll, 2017-18
- Earned an individual berth to the 2021 NCAA Championships with a bid in the 200 back
- Ranks fifth all-time at Mizzou in the 400 IM
- Also ranks eighth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 200 backstroke
- Won nine event titles over her Tiger career, including three as a senior in 2020-21
- Swept the 200 backstroke and 200 IM in the 2020-21 season-opening meet against TCU
