Murgett becomes fourth Tiger and first since 2017 to earn All-SEC honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis junior Bronte Murgett (Holmfirth, Great Britain) was named to the All-Southeastern Conference second team, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Murgett is the fourth Tiger to earn All-SEC honors and the first since Bea Machado Santos was named to the second team in 2017.
A first-year Tiger after spending three seasons at New Mexico (2017-20), Murgett has posted a 33-18 record in 2020-21, 18-8 in singles and 15-10 in doubles. She currently ranks No. 31 in the Oracle/ITA National Singles Rankings and No. 45 National doubles rankings with senior Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal). She has helped lead Mizzou to 15 match victories, the fifth-most in a single season in program history, matching its win totals from the 2002-03 and 2004-05 seasons. Mizzou's only seasons with better win totals in program history are 1978-79 (24), 1980-81 (23), 1979-80 (17) and 2015-16 (16).
In singles play, Murgett has posted a 10-7 record in duals, including a 5-5 mark in conference and an 9-6 mark at the No. 1 position. She has two ranked wins on the season in singles action, defeating No. 50 Taylor Bridges (LSU, April 10) and No. 35 Indianna Spink (Arkansas, April 19) in her final two matches of the season. In doubles play, Murgett is 14-9 in duals, 9-1 at the No. 1 position and has three ranked wins on the season.
In the fall, Murgett became the first ITA regional champion in program history after capturing the singles title at the ITA Central Regional in October, producing a 6-0 record at the tournament. Murgett entered the tournament as the No. 20 seed and defeated the No. 45-, 13-, 29-, 12-, 9- and 7-seeds to capture the title.
