
Mizzou Softball's Jenna Laird Named to Schutt Sports/NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 30 List

COLUMBIA, Mo. – On Thursday, the NFCA released the Top 30 finalists for the Freshman of the Year award. Mizzou Softball freshman shortstop Jenna Laird was among the names listed. This season, both 2020 and 2021 freshman were eligible to be nominated for the award.
Laird has started all 45 games at shortstop during the 2021 season and she is second in the SEC with a .433 batting average, which leads all freshmen in the conference.
The Long Island-native has been named SEC Freshman of the Week three times during the season. In SEC play, she is batting .469 which is also second in the SEC.
Laird leads the Tigers with 61 hits on the season. She has reached base safely in every SEC game during the 2021 season. She leads Mizzou with 19 multi-hit games on the season. The freshman is tied for the team lead with a 1.126 OPS. Laird has added 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 34 RBI while going 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts.
The freshman has also impressed with the glove, leading the team with 87 assists on the season and turning six double plays.
