BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 22 Mizzou gymnastics team posted the second-highest beam team score in program history in a 197.875-196.175 loss at the hands of No. 3 LSU on Friday night in the regular season finale in Baton Rouge, La. Sophomore Sienna Schreiber (Cumming, Ga.) claimed the beam title with a career-best 9.975 to become only the fourth gymnast in program history to record a 9.975. The event crown was her team-leading eighth event title of the season and her the 10th of her Tiger career.

Additionally, freshman Amaya Marshall (Kannapolis, N.C.) posted a career-high 39.300 in the all-around, thanks to a personal-best 9.9 on beam, to go along with a 9.85 on floor, 9.8 on vault and 9.75 on bars.

Over the last three meets, the Tigers have notched three of the top six team beam scores in Mizzou history, and are averaging 49.400 on the event in that span.

Schreiber's 9.975 on beam led the squad and marked the sophomore's fourth tally of 9.9 or higher on the apparatus this season. Both Marshall and freshman Sydney Schaffer (Andover, Kan.) recorded identical career-bests of 9.9s, and senior Gabrielle Gottula (Spring, Texas) led off the lineup with a 9.875.

The visiting Tigers opened the meet with a 48.700 on bars. Junior Alisa Sheremeta (Circileville, N.Y.) led the way with a 9.775, while Marshall and freshman Kalise Newson (Golden, Colo.), in her collegiate debut, garnered 9.75s. Sophomore Hollyn Patrick (Lafayette, Colo.) added a 9.725.

A trio of 9.8s paced Mizzou in the second rotation on vault. Marshall, Patrick and Schreiber all tallied the score, while Gottula and McCrary both went 9.775.

In the third rotation, Missouri totaled a 49.100 as four Tigers scored 9.8 or better. Sheremeta again posted a team-best, going 9.875 for her fourth-consecutive score of 9.85 or better on the event. Marshall and McCrary were just behind with 9.85s, and Gottula scored a 9.8.

QUOTABLES

Mizzou Head Coach Shannon Welker
"We had a bit of a slow start but we regrouped after bars and we got better as the meet went on. Every event scored a little higher. We did a nice job on floor and we ended with a great beam performance. I'm pleased we were able to finish so strong and it was able to bump us up into the 196 range. Overall, it was a good night.

"I thought Amaya (Marshall) did a really nice job tonight, Sydney (Schaffer) continues to get better. I saw some good things out of our younger women on the team. It was fun to see some growth in some different areas tonight. Hopefully this was a bit of a wakeup call for us as we head into the SEC Championships that we have to get started a little stronger. We're a good team, even on a little of an off night, we were able to produce a decent performance."

UP NEXT

Mizzou next compete at the 2021 SEC Championships on Saturday, March 20 in Huntsville, Ala. The Tigers will go in the afternoon session, set for 2:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
