Tigers Impress in 90-35 Exhibition Win Over Southwest Baptist

Blackwell's double-double leads Tigers in final tune-up


COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou women's basketball earned a commanding 90-35 victory over Southwest Baptist in its final exhibition game on Thursday night inside of Mizzou Arena.

Four Tigers finished in double figures and the Black & Gold turned up the pressure on defense, racking up 18 steals and three blocks as a team. Junior Aijha Blackwell led the way on both ends to post a double-double in Mizzou's final tune-up. She scored 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field, including 2-for-2 from behind the arc to go along with 10 rebound and 6 steals. Junior Hayley Frank poured in another 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, four of which were three-pointers. 

TURNING POINT

Although the Tiger's led from the tip and finished the first quarter with a 16-point lead, the Tigers iced the game in the third quarter, outscoring SBU 32-9. Senior Ladazhia Williams put up 11 of her 13 points in the third, while Blackwell poured in another nine points and three steals. The Tigers shot 88 percent from the floor (15-of-17) and closed the quarter on a 19-2 run. 

TOP TIGERS

  • Junior guard Aijha Blackwell paced the Tigers on both ends with a strong double-double. Blackwell put up 21 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.
  • Junior forward Hayley Frank scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds along with 2 steals in the game.
  • Freshman guard Izzy Higginbotham had 16 points along with 3 assists. 
  • Senior forward Ladazhia Williams had 13 points, three rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.

NOTES

  • As a team, Mizzou shot 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the field and hit 10 three-pointers. 
  • Four Tigers finished in double figures: Blackwell (21), Frank (16), Higginbotham (16), and Williams (13)
  • Senior guard Haley Troup dished out a game-high eight assists. 
  • Mizzou scored 46 points off of 30 turnovers. The Tigers racked up 18 steals, led by six from Blackwell.
  • 10 of the 11 Tigers who played on Thursday night recorded a steal.
