Tigers set to race in Iowa City at NCAA Regional Championships on Friday.
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Mizzou Cross Country is set to travel to Iowa City, Iowa for the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 12 at the Ashton Cross Country Course. The women's 6k is set to begin at 11:00 A.M. CT while the men's 10k race will begin at 12:00 P.M. CT.
Mizzou will run 14 athletes, seven men and seven women. Last year, regionals were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the National Championship qualifying rules remain the same. In order to qualify, Mizzou will either have to finish as one of the top two teams on Friday in Iowa City or be added as one of 13 additional teams by receiving an at-large bid. Meanwhile, after teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals per gender will be selected for the National Championships. Among individuals who are not members of qualifying teams, the top four finishers at the regional meet will qualify. For full details about the qualifying process, click here.
At the SEC Championship race, Junior Marquette Wilhite (Warrensburg, Mo.) and freshman William Sinclair (Tauwhare, New Zealand) led the men, earning All-SEC Second Team recognition for their performances in the 8k race. The men's team, coming off third place finish with 105 points, recorded their best SEC finish since 2012 and hopes to build on their success at regionals.
For the women, senior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England), and sophomore Isabelle Christiansen (Oswego, Ill.) led the women in Columbia during their last race, finishing 24th and 30th, respectively. The women also look to improve on their performance in Iowa after their seventh place team finish at SEC's.
