Mizzou Tennis Drops Both Matches of Doubleheader to No. 11 Oklahoma State

Mizzou falls to Oklahoma State 4-1 in match 1, 4-3 in match 2
STILLWATER, Okla. – Mizzou Tennis dropped a pair of matches to No. 11 Oklahoma State to open its spring season on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla. Mizzou dropped the opening match, 4-1, and the second match 4-3.
The highlight of the day came in the second match, as Mizzou's top doubles team of junior Bronte Murgett (Holmfirth, Great Britain) and senior Marta Oliveira (Lisbon, Portugal) defeated the No. 34-ranked team of Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Ayumi Miyamoto in the second match to help Mizzou win the doubles point.
MATCH 1
In the first match of the day, Mizzou dropped all three matches of the doubles competition and three matches in singles play. Mizzou's lone victory from the match came at the No. 4 position as senior Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) defeated No. 77 Ayumi Miyamoto (OSU), 7-5, after a retirement from the Cowgirl tennis player.
MATCH 2
In the second match, Mizzou earned the doubles point after wins at the first and second position. Murgett and Oliveira clinched their victory with a 6-3 win, while Wright and sophomore Elys Ventura (Aukland, New Zealand) earned a 7-5 victory over Dariya Detkovskaya and Lenka Stara at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, Mizzou received victories at the No. 4 position from Wright, a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Lenka Stara, and at the No. 6 position from senior Serena Nash (Bradford, England), a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lora Boggs. However, Oklahoma State won at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 positions to clinch the victory.

Mizzou returns home to Columbia for a pair of doubleheaders next weekend, as the Tigers host Murray State on Saturday, Jan. 23 (9 a.m. & 1 p.m. CT) and Southeast Missouri State on Sunday, Jan. 24 (9 a.m. & 1 p.m. CT).
