COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri swimmer Sarah Thompson will return to the Tigers for the 2021-22 season after electing to take a fifth year of eligibly.
"I am blessed with the opportunity to return to Mizzou for my fifth year," Thompson said. "This team, coaching staff, and school make it hard to leave. Columbia has become my home away from home. I am very excited to have another year to work hard and compete alongside this amazing team while furthering my education."
In four years with the Tigers, Thompson has amassed 10 All-America and three-time All-Southeastern Conference honors. She has a pair of All-America first team accolades to her name, and seven honorable mention, to go along with an honor from the COVID-19-shortenened 2019-20 season.
As a senior in 2021, she took home four All-America honors at the NCAA Championships, including a third-place finish in the 50 free to become only the third women's swimmer in program history to finish top three at NCAAs. Thompson's 50 free championship final time of 21.42 broke her own school record, which she set in November 2019. She also swam on Mizzou's fourth-place 200 free relay team that matched the women's program record for highest NCAA Championships relay finish.
Before her success at NCAAs, Thompson earned runner-up honors in the 100 back at the 2021 SEC Championships, to go along with finishes of fifth in the 100 free and ninth in the 50 free.
In addition to her school mark in the 50 free (21.42), Thompson also ranks third in program history in the 100 free (47.78), fourth in both the 100 back (51.07) and 200 back (1:52.88) and sixth in the 100 fly (52.57).
