COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 23 Mizzou gymnastics team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the 2021 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional Second Round on Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m. CT, the NCAA announced on Monday. The bid marks the Tigers' sixth-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and the 30th overall bid in program history.
Missouri will compete in the evening session against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 15 Auburn and the winner of the Eastern Michigan and Maryland play-in meet, while No. 7 Alabama, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 19 Iowa and No. 20 Iowa State will compete in the afternoon session. The top two finishers in each session advance to the Regional Final on Saturday, April 3 at 7 p.m. CT, and the top two finishers from the second round will move on to the 2021 NCAA Championships.
As the third-seed in the evening session, the Tigers will open competition on floor, then rotate to vault, bars and end on beam.
Mizzou concluded the regular season ranked 23rd in the national rankings with a national qualifying score of 196.444. The squad scored over 196 five times in 2021, including a season-high 196.850 at Arkansas on Feb. 19. Missouri also concluded the regular season ranked 10th nationally on beam with a national qualifying score of 49.369.
The top 36 teams based on national qualifying score (NQS) were selected for regional competition. The committee named the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket. Seeding determined at the time of selections will be maintained through the championship. Teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Nine teams will compete at each of the four regional sites.
The top two teams and the top all-around competitor (who is not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the top event specialist at each regional site who is not part of an advancing team or all-around competitor, will advance to the national championships in that event only.
The national championships will take place April 16-17 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth Texas. The top two teams from the Georgia and West Virginia regionals will compete in the first semifinal, and the top two teams from the Alabama and Utah regionals will compete in the second semifinal.
