COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 17/18 Mizzou Softball opened up the home slate with tremendous offensive production, but play was called early due to rain.
Mizzou led Kent State by a score of 15-0 in the bottom of the third inning with two outs when play was halted. The game is not official until the conclusion of the fifth inning.
In the first inning, the Tigers scored six runs, highlighted by a Jenna Laird bases-clearing triple to center. Mizzou drew four walks in the inning.
Kimberly Wert put another run on the board in the second inning with an RBI single to left, brining in Hatti Moore. In the third inning, the Tigers really began to pour it on. Jazmyn Rollin and Abby George each reached base safely and Brooke Wilmes blasted her fourth home run of the season to right-center, putting the score at 10-0.
After Cayla Kessinger walked, Hatti Moore lined her seventh home run of the season over the left field wall. Kimberly Wert singled to left and Emma Raabe drew a walk, and Jenna Laird drove a 2-2 pitch over the right-center wall for her third home run of the season, giving the Tigers a 15-0 lead. Laird has driven in six runs over three innings.
Following Laird's home run, play was stopped due to rain. With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers have already scored eight runs in the frame. Megan Schumacher did not allow a run during the first three frames.
The game will resume at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
