FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mizzou Track & Field completed day two of the SEC Indoor Championships on Friday, registering two top-10 finishes from freshman Davis Helmerich (Highland Ranch, Colo.) and senior Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill).

NOTABLE FINISHES

Helmerich opened up the day for Mizzou by setting a new lifetime best in the men's mile with a time of 4:08.81, four seconds faster than his previous best in college. Finishing in 10th in the prelims, Helmerich will move on to the men's mile final on Saturday. 

In arguably one of the deepest long jump fields in a conference championship ever, featuring seven athletes ranked in the top 10 from across the nation, Ward set a new season best with a jump of 7.93m (26-0.25). His mark was good for a sixth place finish among the stacked competition and ranks eighth nationally.

UP NEXT

Mizzou will return to the track tomorrow for the conclusion of the 2021 SEC Indoor Championships. The action begins with the men's shot put at 12:30 p.m. CT. Track events will follow, beginning with the men's mile at 2:00 p.m. CT.
