Adesanmi, Cisneros, Nurnberger and Whitmore nominated to preseason team for first time
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With the Southeastern Conference soccer season kicking off this weekend, the league announced its 2020 preseason watchlist on Thursday. Mizzou Soccer was represented by Momola Adesanmi, Julissa Cisneros, Cassidy Nurnberger and Lindsey Whitmore.
In lieu of an All-SEC preseason team voted on by the coaches, the league accepts nominations from each institution to be placed on the preseason watch list.
Senior defender Momola Adesanmi (Lagos, Nigeria) was named to the preseason watchlist for the first time in her career after contributing to a defense that recorded two shutouts a season ago. Playing at outside fullback, Adesanmi started in all 17 games she was active in while recording 1,332 minutes last season. Over the course of her career, she has contributed to 11 shutouts.
Junior forward Julissa Cisneros (Moreno Valley, Calif.) looks to continue her hot run as she comes off a career year in 2019. Cisneros led the team with 11 goals and 23 points, and scored in the final five games of the season. The 11 goals are tied for the ninth-most goals in a single-season.
Her 16 career goals through her sophomore season ranks seventh in team history in career goals for players entering their junior season.
Cassidy Nurnberger (New Haven, Mo.) returns for her final season at Mizzou after serving as the team's primary central midfielder in 2019. The senior midfielder started all 18 matches for the Tigers last year and finished fourth on the team in minutes played with 1,284.
Joining Nurnberger in the midfield is senior Lindsey Whitmore (Henderson, Nev.). Whitmore will wrap up her time at Mizzou in 2020 after starting all but two games and racking up three assists last season – which ranked second on the team.
Mizzou was originally slated to begin its season this weekend against Florida at home. Due to positive COVID-19 cases and subsequent quarantines on the Gators' roster, the Tigers will now kick off their season next Sunday, Sept. 27, at South Carolina. The match will air on ESPNU.
