Redshirt junior named to outlet's second team
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball redshirt junior Cayla Kessinger was named a second-team All-American by Softball America, the outlet announced this week.
Kessinger was in the midst of a career year in 2020 before play was halted on March 12. She was batting .429 on the year with four doubles, two triples and six home runs. She drew 17 walks for a total slash line of .429/.521/.753 through 26 games.
In her return season from a right arm injury, Kessinger batted in a career-high 32 runs on the season – far ahead of her previous season-high of 20 from 2018. She was on-pace to match the school record for RBI in a season (Sami Fagan- 66, 2015). Her RBI total ranked ninth in the country during the shortened season.
As of the conclusion of the season, Kessinger was riding a 15-game hitting streak – the longest of her career and tied for the fourth longest streak in program history.
