Murgett played for three seasons at New Mexico
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis Interim Head Coach Chris Wootton announced the addition of transfer Bronte Murgett on Saturday. Prior to Mizzou, Murgett played three seasons collegiately for New Mexico, and will have two more seasons of eligibility remaining when she suits up for the Tigers.
"I am excited to welcome an elite player and person to join our Tiger family," said Wootton. "Bronte has the unique qualifications and experience of being a team captain, leader and a top NCAA player. Her impact on the Mizzou family and tennis program will be swift and profound. She adds an element of tenacity and grit to our already formidable roster."
Murgett complied a 95-43 collegiate record in three seasons at New Mexico, going 48-20 in singles play and 45-23 in doubles play. In 2018-19, she posted impressive marks of 18-5 in singles and 20-3 in doubles, leading the Lobos in doubles winning percentage (.870). She played exceptionally well at the No. 2 singles spot of UNM, posting a 10-3 record with a 10-match singles win streak. In the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season, Murgett had posted a mark of 13-5 in singles play and a 1-1 record at the No. 1 position.
Murgett hails from Holmfirth, Great Britain, and lettered in tennis at Huddersfield New College, where her team made it to the "Top 7" at nationals.
Murgett is the third talented newcomer Mizzou has added for the 2020-21 season, as she joins Romary Cardenas Rifka and Valentina Vasquez Pongruber.
