Columbia, Mo. – Mizzou Men's Golf saw strong performances out of the gate on day one of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Sunday. The squad posted a team score of 2-over 282 to be in 11th through the first 18 holes on the Par 70 course. The Tigers were led by senior Rory Franssen and redshirt sophomore Ross Steelman who both carded rounds under-par and currently stand in the Top-20.
Franssen launched into the event firing a 3-under 67, tying his lowest round for the season. Held down by seven birdies, he sits T-7 for the day and continues the tournament looking to secure his 10th career Top-10 finish.
Columbia native Ross Steelman continued his hot streak from the previous outing at the Legends Collegiate Invitational by carding a 1-under 69. His bogey-free front nine holes, along with three birdies, pushed him to T-18 for day.
Junior Tommy Boone racked up three birdies as well to anchor his 2-over 72, tying for his season-best round score. He heads into the day two standing at T-48.
Senior Jack Parker closed the round at T57 with a 3-over, 73. Rounding out the Tigers' scores on Sunday was sophomore Yu-Ta Tsai, who recorded a 5-over 75 to sit at T-66.
