CHICAGO – The Gatorade Company announced Laurin Krings, an incoming Mizzou Softball freshman, as the 2019-20 Gatorade Colorado Softball Player of the Year on Thursday. Krings was also honored as the Centennial State's Gatorade player of the year in 2018-19, and is the fourth two-time winner to hail from Colorado.
The award recognizes the top prep student-athlete in each state for outstanding athletic achievement, as well as academic excellence and exemplary character. Krings is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year Award to be announced in June.
Krings led Loveland High School to a 24-4 record and a spot in the Class 5A state quarterfinals this past fall. The right-hander started every game for the Indians, posting an ERA of 0.59. Krings struck out 339 batters in her senior season, to only 21 walks.
A threat at the plate, she also batted .455 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. She compiled those numbers despite being intentionally walked 31 times. Her outstanding achievement also landed Krings on the all-state first team, and as the Frontier League Pitcher of the Year.
Holding a 3.48 GPA, Krings also volunteered at local food drives and youth softball programs.
Krings is part of a nine-member signing class ranked as the nation's 28th-ranked group, according to Extra Innings Softball.
Mizzou Softball will enter the third season under head coach Larissa Anderson in 2021. The Tigers went 19-7 and were tied for first place in the SEC when the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
