Q: Where are you at right now?
A: Right now, I've been at home in Washington, Mo., with my family. This past month I haven't been doing much other than school and hanging out with my family. I go on quite a few walks with my family and my dog. I'm like really antsy and I always have to be doing something. I've been struggling a little bit with the whole quarantine, because I'm really bored a lot.
Q: How do you fight boredom?
A: I've been cooking a lot more and I've been into making these smoothie bowls. I try to decorate them as much as I can…Sometimes my family will have board game nights. We kind of figure out these small, little activities to do together to pass the time.
Q: What board games have you been playing?
A: My family is super competitive, so there's always like fighting going on during the board games. My favorite one has been Scrabble. We also have played 'Life' – I didn't win that one, but maybe next time.
Q: What have you been making?
A: In the morning I'll make smoothie bowls, usually a mixed berry with a topping. I'll put on granola, coconut flakes, chia seeds and almond butter. I'm a big baker, so I love just making like chocolate chip cookies. I've been trying new recipes where I've made banana peanut butter cookies. When it comes to dinner I just like to make chicken or pasta.
Q: What does your class schedule look like at the moment?
A: I'm majoring in finance and real estate. My class load is kind of interesting because all of my professors decided to go with a self-paced online class. I don't have to wake up during my class time – which is nice because all of my classes were at 8 a.m. during the school year. I'm taking a financial investment class, a real estate class, financial accounting and a business administration class. The class load is a little difficult. It's definitely hard not having your teacher to go ask questions during office hours. I'm in tutoring, so I'm managing.
Q: Can you take us through the day when sports were shut down and the stay at home first began? (6:00)
A: I remember this day pretty well. It was a really nice sunny day, and we actually had practice in the afternoon instead of the morning. So, we were outside on our field for the first time, and we were scrimmaging against a boy's team. As a team we were talking about the what-ifs of having to go home. Right after that practice we went into the lockerroom and saw the message that campus was going remote. We had never seen anything like this before.
Q: How have you stepped into a leadership role this past year, and what does that look like from home?
A: This spring semester I was definitely challenged to become more of a leader on the team. It was easier when we were all on campus together. Now that we're all back home with our own families, I just reach out virtually – Face Timing and messaging. It's also nice to just catch up. I was with my teammates every day, and then one day it was just 'bye.'
Q: What is your favorite moment playing at Mizzou?
A: My favorite game ever was my sophomore year against Kentucky. It was our SEC home opener game, and we were going back and forth the whole game 0-0. At the end of the first half, Sarah (Luebbert) was dribbling in the box and got fouled, so it was a PK call. I wasn't expecting to get called up so I was just hanging back. Next thing I know I heard Blitz call my name and tell me to go take it. All of a sudden all of the nerves in my body left and I was really calm in the moment. Looking back on it, I think I should have been more nervous…I made it and it was my first collegiate goal.
Q: How are you staying positive right now?
A: Each day I just try to remind myself that everything's going to be ok. If we stick together we're going to push through. It's a weird situation that we're all in, but we just need to stay positive and take it one day at a time.
