Mizzou Men’s Hoops’ Reed Nikko Named to 2020 SEC Community Service Team

Mizzou senior forward Reed Nikko represented Mizzou on the 2020 Community Service Team, recognizing him for his exemplary dedication to giving back to Columbia.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for men's basketball for the 2019-20 season.  Mizzou senior forward Reed Nikko represented Mizzou on the 2020 Community Service Team, recognizing him for his exemplary dedication to giving back to Columbia.

Nikko has been the leader and catalyst for Mizzou's commitment to community service. The Tigers brought home Mizzou Athletics' annual Team Community Service Award over the summer.

Nikko and company spent countless hours at the Central Missouri Food Bank, helping pack more than 5,000 pounds of food. The Food Bank continually referred to Nikko and the squad as its favorite volunteer group because of the impact the Tigers made on the organization.

Additionally, Nikko led a group that visited the MU Children's Hospital to spend time with youth battling illness. He also helped established a partnership with Rainbow House, a Columbia organization that provides housing and resources for children dealing with abuse. Nikko delivered hundreds of teddy bears and toys to the kids there during the holiday season.

Nikko spent time at Mizzou's book club the program established at a junior high school in town. Nikko and company read select texts and discuss things about life and leadership with coming-of-age boys in the community. He also spent time working with the Ronald McDonald House and specifically helped clean houses.

As Mizzou's senior captain, he continued the team's strong ties with the local Boys & Girls club chapter, hosting free clinics for youth and helping raise more than $150,000 at the annual Hoops for a Cause event.

Nikko and Mizzou are gearing up for Senior Day vs. Alabama on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The game will air on the SEC Network. Prior to tipoff, Mizzou will honor Nikko with a pregame ceremony at 1:15 p.m.
