No. 6/20 Swimming and Diving Closes Regular Season Friday Against Southern Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 6/20 Mizzou men's and women's swimming teams conclude the regular season on Friday, Jan. 31 as they host Southern Illinois at 2 p.m. CT at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Admission to the meet is free. Prior to the meet, Mizzou will honor its 10 seniors for their contributions to the Mizzou swimming and diving family. The senior recognition will begin at 1:45 p.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT

The Mizzou swimming teams swept a tri-dual against Saint Louis and Evansville on Jan. 18. A total of 13 different Tigers claimed event wins against SLU and Evansville, led by a pair of victories from junior Amanda Smith. In the first individual race of the meet, Smith touched first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:12.57. She then took top honors in the 100 fly after touching in 56.10.

The Tiger divers competed at the Bruin Diving Invitational Jan. 17-19 and notched seven top five finishes over the three-day meet. Freshman Leonardo Garcia Varela earned three top four finishes of his own, with placements of third on 3-meter and fourth on 1-meter and platform, and sophomore Ike Khamis claimed runner-up honors on platform. 

MIZZOU IN THE RANKINGS

The Tiger men currently rank No. 6 nationally in the CSCAA TYR Top 25 poll, while the women check in at No. 20. 

TIGERS OWN SOME OF THE NATION'S TOP TIMES

A total of 12 different Tigers own national top 25 times, including six who rank in the top 10. Leading the way is senior Haley Hynes, who currently ranks second in the 100 back (50.70).
