Continuing a look back at the 2019 fall season, a newcomer by the way of Red Wing, Minn. - freshman Sophia Yoemans - made a big impact on the Tiger program in her first semester on the Mizzou campus. Yoemans made the starting five right away and turned in an outstanding fall, playing in all five Tiger tournaments. She ended the fall with a 73.86 scoring average, which was second on the team, and ranked her ninth in the SEC among all freshmen (29th overall in the conference).
Yoemans led the team twice in five outings, including just her second tournament as a collegian, when she tied for 12th at the Mason Rudolph Challenge, where she shot a personal collegiate-best 217, including rounds of 72-76-69. She then turned in her second-straight top-20 showing the next time out, when she tied for 18th at the Johnie Imes Invitational, with rounds of 77-75-72 (224), as she helped the Tigers to their sixth-straight Imes team title. Yoemans notched three rounds under par in the fall, and was the most consistent performer on the squad, as her variance between low (217) and high (224) tournament totals was the lowest on the team.
The three-time Minnesota state champion also excelled in the classroom this fall, as she achieved a 3.75 grade point average, with her academic interest residing in health science.
