
Gutierrez Named to USA Swimming Open Water National Junior Team

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Joseph Gutierrez (Las Vegas, Nev.) of the Mizzou men's swimming team was named to the 2019-2010 USA Swimming Open Water National Junior Team, USA Swimming announced on Wednesday.
Gutierrez earned a spot on the National Junior Team thanks to his performance at the 2019 USA Swimming 10K Open Water Championships. The freshman placed 18th overall in the event but third amongst 18-and-under athletes with a time of 1:57.25.90. The top six 18-and-under finishers at the Championships were named to the National Junior Team.
He earned finishes of second in the 200 free and third in the 200 free at the 2019 Nevada 3A & 4A State Championship, and also took third at the 2017 USA Swimming 5K Open Water Junior National Championships.
Gutierrez and the Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the 2019-20 season on Friday, Oct. 4 at the 14th annual Show-Me Showdown, set for 1 p.m. at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
