Tiger duo to compete in the javelin on Sunday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field sophomore Ava Curry (Liberty, Mo.) and incoming-freshman Skylar Ciccolini (Lewistown, Pa.) will compete in the U20 PanAmerican Championships on Sunday in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Tiger duo qualified for the meet after finishing first and second, respectively, in the javelin at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships in June. The javelin event is scheduled for Sunday at 11:55 a.m. CT in Costa Rica.
Curry finished first in the June meet in Florida, as she recorded a mark of 48.89m (160-5). It was Curry's second-best throw of the season, trailing only her mark of 50.74m (166-6) at the Texas Relays (March 28), which ranks third all-time in program history. In addition to the top-10 program mark, Curry qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary in her debut season in the Black & Gold.
Ciccolini finished second at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships with a throw of 48.15m (158-0), which would rank sixth all-time in program history if she would have competing for Mizzou. Ciccolini, the 2019 Pennsylvania State Champion and New Balance National Champion in the javelin, posted a personal-best mark of 56.13m (184-2) at the Penn Relays Carnival in April, which ranks as nation's top prep javelin mark this season, ranks ninth in the world on the U20 list, and is the second-best mark ever recorded in U.S. high school history.
