Javelin duo of Curry and Ciccolini to headline group in Florida
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field will have four current and future student-athletes competing at the 2019 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, held June 21-23 in Miramar, Florida. The group will be highlighted by the duo of freshman Ava Curry (Liberty, Mo.) and 2019 signee Skylar Ciccolini (Lewistown, Pa.), who will both compete in the javelin.
Curry and Ciccolini will kick off the meet for Mizzou, with the javelin scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. CT on Friday, June 21. Curry just wrapped her freshman campaign in the Black & Gold, as she qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary and posted the No. 3 javelin mark in program history (50.74m/166-6). Ciccolini, the 2019 Pennsylvania State Champion and New Balance National Champion in the javelin, will join an already impressive Mizzou javelin squad next season. The Mifflin County High School product posted a personal-best mark of 56.13m (184-2) at the Penn Relays Carnival in April, which ranks as nation's top prep javelin mark this season, ranks ninth in the world on the U20 list, and is the second-best mark ever recorded in U.S. high school history.
Also competing in Florida will be freshman Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) in the triple jump and freshman Emily Offenheiser (Elizabeth, Ill.) in the discus. Both events are slated for Saturday, with the triple jump beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT and the discus at 3:15 p.m. CT. In her debut season at Mizzou, Fisher posted the No. 4 outdoor triple jump mark in program history (12.58m/41-3.25) in a 12th-place finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships (May 11). Offenheiser, who redshirted for Mizzou this past season, finished her prep career as a state champion in the discus in 2018 for Stockton High School in Elizabeth, Ill. She set a personal record in her state title performance, producing a mark of 46.23m (151-8).
