Tigers Await NCAA Selection Show, Set to Air Sunday Night

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Mizzou Softball (32-23) fell, 3-0, to Auburn (36-18), Wednesday night at Davis Diamond Stadium after a lengthy rain delay pushed the game back more than five hours. Mizzou's defense showed up, only giving up the three runs, but the offense couldn't quite ever break through. Auburn's defense was excellent all night, routinely robbing the Tigers of scoring chances with outstanding plays both in the infield and the outfield.

Redshirt senior P Madi Norman got the start and the loss, moving her season record to 17-10. Norman was solid, going six innings while only giving up three runs. Junior P Eli Daniel came in in relief, going an inning without surrendering a hit.

TOP TIGERS

  • Senior 1B Kolby Romaine set the tone for the Tigers offensively, going 2-3 at the dish. Her double on the night was the Tigers' only extra base hit in the game.
  • Sophomore RF Callie Martin had one of her best games of the season, recording multiple hits for just the fifth time this season.

TURNING POINT

Mizzou gave up a run in the first, but looked poised to get it back at several moments. The key play in the game came when sophomore C Hatti Moore barreled up a ball in the third inning, and it appeared as Mizzou would take a 2-1 lead, as sophomore CF Brooke Wilmes was on second and senior LF Regan Nash was on first. Auburn's CF made a great catch, running backward and jumping to make the grab.

Auburn's offense would capitalize on the play, blasting a two-run homer in the fifth to take the lead for good.

QUOTEABLES

"I am so proud of our team," Coach Anderson said. "All I can ever ask them to do is to play with passion, and put forth their best effort. I thought they did that today. Tip of the cap to Auburn. They played a great game. Now, all we can do is hope for a good draw."

UP NEXT

Mizzou will await the NCAA Selection show, which is set to air on ESPNU this Sunday night at 8 p.m. CT.
