Moore Powers @MizzouSoftball Past Cal State Fullerton, 7-4

Moore Drives In Six of the Tigers’ Seven Runs

LOS ANGELES - Mizzou Softball (33-23) won game one in the Los Angeles Regional, 7-4, beating Cal State Fullerton (38-17) behind a superb performance from sophomore C Hatti Moore. The La Grange, Texas, product made a statement in her 2019 postseason debut, going 2-3 at the plate, hitting two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, and notching six RBI. Moore's six RBI against the Titans was the most by a Tiger since March of 2017.

Redshirt senior P Madi Norman picked up her 18th win of the season, going 5.2 innings, while notching four strikeouts. Junior P Eli Daniel closed the game out, picking up her ninth save of the season, going 1.1 innings to secure the win.

TOP TIGERS

  • Senior LF Regan Nash had a huge game, going 3-3 at the plate, including an RBI double in the fifth that tied the game up at three. The senior spark plug would also score a run.
  • Freshman SS Jazmyn Rollin joined Moore as the only Tigers to score multiple runs, as she was plated twice. Rollin also made several nice plays at short defensively.
  • Sophomore CF Brooke Wilmes went 1-3, at the dish, and was one of four Tigers with a hit and a run in the game.

TURNING POINT

It looked as if Mizzou's best opportunity to take the lead passed in the fifth, as a Wilmes hit into center was nullified by a perfect throw to home plate. Sophomore PR Abby George was thrown out at the dish, and the Titans had all of the momentum. Moore quickly changed all that.

With the bases loaded, the sophomore stepped to the plate and belted her second homer of the day to deep centerfield, hitting the scoreboard on the way out. Mizzou would give up another run in the sixth, but Daniel would close the door in the bottom of the inning and through the seventh to secure the win.

QUOTEABLES

"Big time win to start our postseason," Coach Anderson said. "Hatti was tremendous for us tonight, and I am so happy that she got to show the nation her improvement. We will celebrate this one, but not for long. Have to get refocused for tomorrow."

UP NEXT
