@MIZ_TrackField Records Four First-Place Finishes on Opening Day of Tom Botts Invitational

Mizzou will recognize 17 seniors on Saturday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field opened their second home outdoor track & field meet of the year at the Tom Botts Invitational, as the first day of competition began on Friday. Redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera (Brentwood, Mo.), redshirt junior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.), redshirt junior Samantha Farmer (Columbia, Mo.) and redshirt senior Avery Carter (Lee Summit, Mo.) all recorded first-place finishes on the day.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Rivera recorded her first-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 51.54m (169-1), as she produced a mark of 50 meters or better for the fourth consecutive meet. McClendon took first in the hammer throw with a mark of 62.26m (204-3), as she finished a full five meters ahead of the event's runner-up, Mizzou senior Becky Keating (Reading, England), who produced a mark of 56.95m (186-10).
In the men's hammer throw, Carter finished first with a mark of 65.11m (213-7), while Farmer took first-place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:29.72.
Out in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational, three Tigers posted program top-10 marks. For the women, redshirt sophomore Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) ran the fourth-best 3000m steeplechase time in program history at 10:31.89, while redshirt sophomore Karina Liz (Aurora, Ill.) ran the fifth-best time in the 800m run at 2:05.64. For the men, redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) ran the eighth-best time in the 5000m run at 14:10.37.
