Rivera, Clarke and O’Neal post program top-10 marks
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Mizzou Track & Field competed at the John McDonnell Invitational Thursday and Friday in Fayetteville, Ark., as the Tigers posted one school record and three overall program top-10 marks. Redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera (Brentwood, Mo.) reset her own school record in the javelin, while sophomore Nylo Clarke (Riverside, Mo.) and freshman Morgan O'Neal (Sylacauga, Ala.) posted top-10 marks in the 400m dash and 400m hurdles, respectively.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Rivera improved her javelin personal record for the second time in as many meets, as she reset the javelin school record at 55.73m (182-10). Her mark set a new meet record, currently ranks fifth in the NCAA this season and bested her previous school record mark of 53.45m (175-4) from the Texas Relays (March 29).
In the 400m dash, Clarke posted the fourth-best time in program history with a first place finish at 46.30. It is Clarke's fourth program top-10 mark set during the outdoor season, as he has also posted top-10 marks in the 100m dash (seventh – 10.41), 200m dash (seventh – 20.81) and 4x100m relay (eighth – 40.53).
O'Neal improved her 400m hurdles time once again, as she won the event with a time of 59.98, becoming just the third Mizzou athlete to run under one minute in the event, trailing only Valerie Thames (2016 – 57.16) and Leslie Farmer (2012 – 57.80). O'Neal improved her time in the event for the fourth time this season, as she began the season at 1:01.35 at the Herm Wilson Invitational (March 23), then ran a 1:01.18 at the Texas Relays (1:01.18) and a 1:00.83 at the Mizzou Spring Open (April 6).
Mizzou recorded five other first place finishes at the meet, including redshirt senior Evan Schulte (Columbia, Mo.) and redshirt junior Jordyn Kleve (Urbandale, Iowa), who each won the 3000m run at 8:42.13 and 9:53.32, respectively. In field events, redshirt junior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) won the hammer throw at 60.78m (199-5), redshirt senior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) won the discus at 54.77m (179-8) and redshirt sophomore Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Pa.) won the shot put at 15.38m (50-5.5). McClendon also posted a meet record in her event win.
