AUSTIN, Texas. – The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team opened the 2019 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with a 10th-place finish for All-America honorable mention accolades in the 800 free relay on Wednesday evening at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin, Texas.
The Tigers are tied for 10th in the team standings with 13 points with three full days of action remaining.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Senior Mikel Schreuders (Oranjestad, Aruba), junior Giovanny Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshmen Jack Dubois (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Jack Dahlgren (Victoria, Minn.) dropped the second-fastest time in school history in the 800 free relay as they combined to go 6:14.99 on Wednesday to tie Ohio State for 10th.
Mizzou's 10th-place finish also marks the fourth-consecutive season the Tigers claimed All-America honors in the relay after first earning honors for the first-time ever in 2016. Over the three previous seasons, the team had finishes of ninth in 2018, 16th in 2017 and 11th in 2016. Schreuders swam on all four of those 800 free relays.
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Interim Head Coach Andrew Grevers
"We're in the meet, we're tied for 10th. Our first couple swimmers were finding their way into the meet and getting their first race jitters out of the way. I'm really, really pleased with our last two legs. Jack DuBois had a really good 1:34.7, and Jack Dahlgren had a fantastic effort to get that tie for 10th, just getting it home. We got our first race out of the way, and we're excited to get going tomorrow with many, many races."
