Senior Amanda Kim Shines After Two-Under Par 70 on Friday
TUCSON, ARIZ. – The University of Missouri Women's Golf team welcomed the first weekend of Spring with 18 holes of action in the mountains of Arizona on Friday morning. The first round of the 2019 MountainView Collegiate kicked off at 8 a.m. at the Preserve Golf Club, featuring a total of 13 collegiate golf programs. Seeking a strong showing at their lone March tournament, Mizzou stands in eighth place a third of the way through 54-hole competition, which is co-hosted by the University of Missouri and Kansas State University. The Tigers' first round team score of 292 is their fourth-best opening round outing this season.
Senior Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Mo.) posted an impressive day for the Tigers, as she fired a two-under par 70. The senior stands tied in seventh place after tallying three birdies and only one bogey. Kim was one of only 20 golfers in the tournament to shoot under par on the day, and her 70 score is her best 18-hole round of the season.
"I'm happy with how I played today and hope to keep this going into the next round," Kim said. "I believe our team will grind and make a great comeback in the next two days, so I'm very excited."
Freshman Keagan Dunn (Braselton, Ga.) is tied for 21st in her MountainView Collegiate debut with an 18-hole score of an even-par 72 – well under her season average score of 76.22. Dunn carded an eagle and a birdie Friday and felt confident throughout the first day of tournament action.
"I am proud of my stability over the course of today's round and look forward to the next two days," Dunn said. "I just played with aggressiveness due to Coach Mindy's (Coyle) consistent push for me to utilize my distance as a strength."
Senior Cayce Hendrickson (Benton, Ky.) stands tied for 37th individually, shooting a two-over par 74. Fellow senior Emma Allen (Southampton, England) is tied for 54th with a four-over par 76 performance, while junior Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) is tied for 74th after turning in a seven-over par 79.
Mizzou will look to make a strong move up the scoreboard in day two of the tournament, as Jessica Yuen is the first Tiger to tee off from hole no. 1 tomorrow at 8 a.m. The Tigers are grouped with sixth-place SMU and ninth-place Houston in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate.
