AUSTIN, Texas. – The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team claimed All-America honorable mention honors in the 200 free relay to highlight Thursday action at the 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
The Tigers concluded the day with 14 points to sit 24th in the team standings.
KEY PERFORMANCES
Missouri's 200 free relay team of senior Annie Ochitwa (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), sophomore Sarah Thompson (Collierville, Tenn.), freshman Megan Keil (Derby, Kan.) and junior Haley Hynes (Lee's Summit, Mo.) earned All-America honorable mention honors after placing 10th with a finals swim of 1:27.54. The 1:27.54 set a new school record by more than half a second, besting the old mark of 1:28.09 set at last month's Southeastern Conference Championships. Including the 1:28.13 from prelims, the quartet own the top three fastest times in the event in Mizzou history.
The 10th-place finish in the 200 free relay also ties for the second-best finish in the event at NCAAs, trailing only the 2012 placement of seventh.
Additionally, Ochitwa set a new career-best time in her opening 50 free leg of the relay with a 21.83, which was only four-hundredths of a second off the 50 free school record.
In individual action, three Tigers claimed top 30 finishes on Thursday. Hynes placed 26th in the 50 free (22.34), just ahead of Thompson in the same event (22.36). Additionally, senior Kylie Dahlgren (Victoria, Minn.) took 29th in the 200 IM (1:57.29).
QUOTABLES
Mizzou Interim Head Coach Andrew Grevers
"I'm proud of the team's ability to work through all of the external distractions of the meet and focus on controlling what they can control. Through that, we were able to come back tonight focused, energized and excited to race with a great attitude and set a school record by half a second."
