COLUMBIA, Mo. – Three Tigers, seniors Jordan O'Brien (Naperville, Ill.) and Jacob Wielinski (Mounds View, Minn.) and freshman Danny Kovac (Fort Collins, Colo.), secured NCAA Championships bids in competition at the 2019 Region VIII Speedo Spring Sectional, held March 7-10 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
KEY PERFORMANCES
O'Brien swam his NCAA worth swim on Friday, as the senior posted a career-best time of 51.15 in the 100 breast in morning prelims. The time bettered his old best of 51.43, which he set at last month's Southeastern Conference Championships. O'Brien's time drop now places him 17th nationally in the event.
Wielinski dropped over seven seconds from his season-best time in the 1650 free on Sunday, as he touched in 14:48.61. That time, only four seconds off his school record time, moved him up the event rankings from 36th to 19th nationally.
Also nabbing an NCAA berth was Kovac, who earned his spot in the 200 IM. The freshman dropped a 1:43.10 during Saturday action, which puts him 19th nationally in the event. His previous best was 1:43.75, clocked at the SEC Championships.
