Misner becomes the first Tiger to garner Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list accolades since Tanner Houck in 2017. Houck was also named to the preseason list alongside former Tiger shortstop Ryan Howard in 2016. Former Tiger right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson received the same honor in 2009.
Thursday marks the third major preseason accolade for Misner heading into his 2019 junior campaign. In January, the Poplar Bluff, Missouri, native received preseason Second-Team All-American nods by both Baseball America and Perfect Game / Rawlings.
The Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list identifies the top amateur baseball players in the country for the upcoming 2019 campaign. This year's list features NCAA Division I, Division II, NAIA and high school athletes. Misner is one of 13 representatives from the Southeastern Conference, marking the most players from any league in the nation.
Fans will be able to vote for their favorite players at GoldenSpikesAward.com again in 2019, starting on May 15 with the naming of the Golden Spikes Award semifinalists. USA Baseball will announce the finalists on May 29 and the winner of the 42nd Golden Spikes Award will be named on June 14.
